It is a historic town, and rich in Settler history, hence the name of this complex. The town's Kowie History Museum has many fascinating stories and photos of "the old days" and describes how the town was built around the Kowie River, its central theme, and how it was originally intended to be the main trading town along the coast for ships seeking fresh supplies.
Great new shops offering yummy foods, and interesting and quirky homeware, have sprung up. Rosehill Shopping Mall on the outskirts of town has added a number of national chain outlets, all at great benefit to the consumer.
The town hosts numerous sporting events, such as the annual Intervarsity and Interschools rowing regatta on the Kowie River; the SA Open Surfing Championships; The Five Royals Golf Tournament, the RE/MAX Kowie Boxing Day Fun Run; the Harry Owsley Bowls Tournament; and the Pineapple Cricket Week, to name a few.
The surrounding areas to see include Bathurst, 12km inland, a colourful village with the oldest Pub in the country. It's Sunday Farmers Market is well worth a visit. Kenton on Sea and Bushman's River, 25km west of here, are little villages sharing two lovely rivers - the beaches are also wonderful here. Kleinemonde, also straddling two rivers, has a shallow blind river which is ideal for kids to play in. The Three Sisters, 3 large rock formations a few kilometres down the beach are amazing to see and a good walk from here.

Our stay at Settler Sands was more than wonderful - we cannot wait to go back. The accommodation was wonderful. The place was so neat it felt like a home away from home. This was really value for money and I would recommend this place to anyone.
